Self-reflection Frees Ourselves from Habitual Tendencies

習氣 (xí qì ) means habitual tendencies, subtle inclinations that are imprinted in the mind, like a stain. We often don’t pay much attention to it. What is worst, we may even think of all these as “just the way we are”. These tendencies live in a more or less unconscious corner of our mind. Self-reflection can help you change your bad habitual tendencies.

只會看別人的過失,卻不知審查自己的缺點,是我們最大的無明習氣。
只会看别人的过失,却不知审查自己的缺点,是我们最大的无明习气。
The greatest of our habitual tendencies caused by delusion is that we only see the mistakes of others, but seldom reflect on the shortcomings of our own.
